Political action is an integral part of trade unionism. Not only does it reinforce our rights on the job, but it provides our membership with a powerful and effective means to influence policy at all levels of government. Organized, strategic political outreach and community mobilization are of particular value to TWU Local 100, as the majority of our membership is comprised of public sector workers.
Supported by voluntary member contributions, there are three major components to Political action:
Outreach and Education
Ongoing efforts to inform members about the pressing issues of the day at the City, State and Federal levels through direct mailings, meetings, our website and Local 100 Express
Mobilization
Coordination of member-driven lobbying campaigns and direct election work through phone banking, door-to-door canvassing and other get out the vote efforts. From our annual Lobby Day in Albany to creating opportunities for Retirees to unleash their experience, Local 100 is dedicated to playing a progressive role in the politics of our time.
Legislation
From introducting legislation all the way through final passage of laws to serve the working population, Local 100 is actively involved through every stage of the process. Successful campaigns have included the Assault Bill which protect operating personnel and station agents on the job and the successful fight for pension reimbursement.
