Union Steps Up to Help Rockaways Recover

The union bus, arranged for by OA Division 2 Chair Frank Austin, make pickups in Manhattan and in Brooklyn before proceeding out into the Rockaways. Local 100’s Vaughn Brooks was driving. Also on board was Oneshia Shade-Portlette, who together with Power Section VP Celeste Kirkland is coordinating the Union’s disaster response. Besides the bus, two Union vans packed with donated goods were also dispatched on the mission of mercy. On deck to distribute the goods were veteran Union activists including Tareque Ahmed, Joe Ruggerio, and PAC organizers Cheska Tolentino, Henry Butler, Dexter Victory, and DaShawn Williams. Many Local 100 members had boarded the bus with bags of clothing and food and went to work where they were needed. A more complete report on our charitable work in the Rockaways will appear in the next issue of the TWU Bulletin.
