TWU Local 100 members were at the 72nd Street stop on the IRT line Friday morning passing out flyers to tell riders that part of the reason for the escalating numbers of deaths on the tracks is the MTA’s policy of high speeds for trains when entering stations – and the lack of flexibility that train operators have to use caution. In 2012, 54 New Yorkers lost their lives on the tracks. Because the MTA hasn’t come up with any ideas, the union is urging our Train Operators to use caution when entering stations in the hope of saving lives. We’re also asking the riding public to sign a petition which is featured prominently on our website. The edgy flyer campaign, showing a chalk outline of a body in the subway road bed, is gaining traction in the press. Read the Daily News article here.
