Family Day 2026 Takes Over Coney Island

Clear skies and summer heat enhanced the feeling of union pride, family fun, and transit solidarity.

Members feasted on a dizzying number of dishes from some of New York’s finest vendors, serving up soul food, Italian specialties, Latin, Caribbean, and classic American favorites.

Ice cream trucks kept everyone cool while music echoed throughout the park, creating the perfect soundtrack for a memorable day.

The Brooklyn Cyclones ballpark was transformed into a “Kids Zone,” complete with bounce houses, carnival games, attractions, and activities for children of all ages. Every department of Local 100 was represented, with officers and members gathering under tents and tailgate setups, giving everyone an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and enjoy the day together.

The Top 4 and the department Vice Presidents addressed the crowd and provided an update on our ongoing contract fight.

President Chiarello made it clear that while MTA management sits across the bargaining table, Governor Kathy Hochul continues to cast a long shadow over negotiations. With delays and a lack of urgency, members were reminded that the fight for a fair contract is not just with the MTA, but with those behind the scenes who have the power to move the process forward.

Joining the festivities were long time allies of Local 100, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, whose father was a Local 100 member for 34 years, and NYS Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn representing Brooklyn in Assembly District 42. Both pledged their ongoing support for transit workers as the fight for a fair contract continues.

The strength and solidarity on display sent a powerful message to MTA leadership: our members will not be ignored, and we will not back down in the fight for the respect—and the contract—we deserve.

The fight is far from over, but if Saturday's turnout proved anything, it's that Local 100 remains united and ready for what’s ahead.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. Until next year, brothers and sisters.
