"Violent Predicate Felon" Convicted of Vicious Slashing Attack on Our Sister Conductor
Thompson traveled two stops to Whitlock Ave., got off the train and then grabbed the Conductor, slashing her with a sharp object.
“We thank Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and her prosecutors for securing Isaiah Thompson’s conviction on two counts of assault,” said TWU Local 100 President John V. Chiarello. “Thompson’s brutal attack on our member, a Conductor who was doing her job, was all the more vicious because she had just made the announcement to stand clear of the doors, a message to ensure the safety of passengers.”
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office congratulated the Assistant District Attorneys who had handled the case, writing “the jury convicted the defendant, a violent predicate felon, of two counts of Assault in the Second Degree” and noted that the Conductor had been left with a permanent scar on her face.
Sentencing guidelines, which will determine how much time Thompson can be sentenced to prison for, have not been decided yet, said a representative in the District Attorney’s Office.
Thompson has a long history of committing crimes in transit, including pulling emergency brakes on multiple trains, subway surfing, exposing himself to passengers and assaulting people in subway stations—chillingly, he was accused of slashing a man at Jay Street-Metrotech, ABC7 wrote in 2019.
Local 100 officers and members had attended the first day of Thompson’s trial on June 26 and called for justice for our sister Conductor when speaking to press during a break in the proceedings.
“We understand that sentencing guidelines have not been announced yet, but we urge the DA to consider the cruelty visited on our member and recommend the maximum sentence allowable,” said Chiarello.
Thompson’s sentencing will take place September 8.
