International Conference
on the Health Status of
Urban & Intra-Urban Transit Workers
12-14 July  2011
Caracas, Venezuela

On July 12-14,  2011, the second International Conference on the Health Status of Urban and Inter-Urban Transit Workers will convene in Caracas Venezuela.

Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union and the Center for the Biology of Natural System, City University of New York, will be sponsoring the Conference. It will be hosted by Francisco Torrealba, Member of Parliament and President of FENTRAFEVE, the National Railway Workers Union, and Eric Rodriguez, MD, FENTRAFEVE Medical Advisor.

The conference will continue the agenda for research, policy direction and action on topics including

• health status of urban and inter-urban mass transit workers: subway/metro, buses and light rail;
• urban transit: new and high tech green jobs; international experience, impact on workers' health and safety coupled with action programs;
• workers' compensation, health benefits & pensions for transit workers; impact on health and hazard reduction.

The 2011 conference will add a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.

The mission of the conference is to seek greater labor solidarity among unions representing transit workers; and, at the same time, promote more medical and scientific research and studies from every aspect of urban mass transit work. Special attention will be focused on the economic crisis and the impact on all workers’ health.

The conference is  open to all trade unionists and medical/scientific professionals engaged in this work, as well as to students.  

The conference is sponsored by Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union and the Center for the Biology of Natural System, City University of New York.
