    A report released today by the Brookings Institution shows the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut region ranks 13th out of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the nation in providing its residents with transit access to jobs. The report, Missed Opportunity: Transit and Jobs in Metropolitan America, found that while 70 percent of all residents in the largest metro areas can get to public transit, the typical resident can reach only 30 percent of the region's jobs by transit.

    The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited the U.S. Postal Service for five alleged repeat violations of safety standards following an inspection of the Morgan Processing and Distribution Center, located at 341 Ninth Ave. in Manhattan. The Postal Service faces a total of $93,500 in proposed fines following an OSHA inspection prompted by complaints.

    Over the past few years, I’ve often examined the debate surrounding the New York City subway map. The map is far from perfect, and functionality and form often fight it out with design and readability emerging as the losers. While recent redesigns have pared down the extraneous information, the subway map is an incomplete glimpse at the subway system as it runs during certain hours of the day. For all of that, the bus maps are even worse.

    Unattended LIRR Trains in Queens: MyFoxNY.com

    A Fox 5 News producer found an empty and unattended Long Island Rail Road with the doors wide open just sitting at the platform on the Long Island City station. He was able to walk right up the door and could have stepped right inside and into the driver's seat.
