More about TWU Local 100

Transport Workers Union Local 100 represents 46,000 workers. The vast majority operate and maintain NYC’s subway and bus system. We also represent thousands in the school transportation and tourism industries, including workers who operate the double-decker buses in Times Square and drive the iconic horse-carriages in Central Park. Our motto is “We Move New York.”

The Communications Department’s beat encompasses the union leadership, the members, and the system that moves millions of people daily. Topics in our publications are varied but a sampling of recent topics would include the following: assaults against transit workers, contract negotiations with the MTA, fundraisers for war-torn Ukraine, political endorsements, and the role of unions serving as champions for the working class.

We write and produce news items, feature stories, and short videos for distribution to the membership and for public consumption. We publish a magazine and provide content for our website, Facebook, and social media.

Currently, we have several ongoing campaigns, including: a fight for city and state government to better protect transit workers from assaults, an effort to get the National Sept. 11th Memorial Museum to recognize the service of transit workers who worked on the pile, and an effort to stop a proposal to ban horse-carriages from Central Park.

We regularly pitch stories to the media in NYC and field their questions. Every major media outlet in NYC covers TWU.
