BOAC Team Recognized for Safety Improvements
Local 100's Bus Operator Action Committee was recognized for their work on August 16. BOAC members received their awards from TWU Local 100 Secretary-Treasurer Earl Phillips and the Chair of the Committee, MaBSTOA Division 2's Frank Austin. 16 plaques were presented -- one for each member of the BOAC team. One team member is drawn from each of the 16 bus depots represented by TWU Local 100. The BOAC team came up with the design for the decal that was placed in each city bus warning that an assault on a bus operator is a felony punishable by 7 years in prison. BOAC has been heavily involved in the selection of bus safety partitions and now is working on rolling out a new safety decal letting the public know that a witness to an assault on an MTA employee can receive a reward of up to $2,000 for reporting it to the police.
