Collecting Agent Wilfredo Ferran, 61, Dies of Coronavirus

TWU Local 100 is mourning the passing of beloved Collecting Agent, Wilfredo “Freddy” Ferran of the Coronavirus.  He was 61 years old and had been on the job with New York City Transit for 17 years.  Brother Ferran was a revenue vehicle operator of Truck 23 out of Maspeth, Queens.

He served his nation in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic.  He received his training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He served in U.S. Army National Guard as an Army Specialist from 1981 to 1987, and in the State Guard as a Staff Sergeant from 1997 to 2008.

Local 100 Vice Chair for the Collecting Agents, Della Cadichon, said that Brother Ferran “was a military man with a very big heart.  Everyone loved him.  He would help anyone.  He’d give his last penny to help someone in need.  We are all very upset by his death.  It is a terrible shock.”

MTA Bus Operator and Shop Steward, William Coludro, a friend and neighbor of Brother Ferran, echoed Brother Cadichon’s sentiments.  “He was a great guy, and very popular in our neighborhood here in East Stroudsburg.  He was incredibly helpful, fun to be with, and a great family man.  We are all in mourning.”

Wilfredo Ferran was born on Nov. 3, 1959 in Santurce, Puerto Rico.  He passed away on Jan. 18, 2021.  He was buried with military honors. Brother Ferran is survived by his loving wife, Norma, five children and five grandchildren.
