CWA's Shelton Thanks TWU, Other Allies as Verizon Contract Settles
45,000 Verizon workers have a new contract, and CWA District 1 VP Chris Shelton is giving credit not only to his members, but to other Union brothers and sisters for standing tough in the fight against the nation's 15th largest corporation. Brother Shelton announced some basic details of the deal in a letter which came to TWU Local 100 on September 20th. Right up front, he thanked the TWU members who leafletted, wrote letters, picketed, and rallied. "We would not have gotten to this point without the incredible support of all of our friends and allies," he wrote. Local 100 members participated in several rallies against Verizon in New York City, and President Samuelsen was a constant presence lending his support to Verizon workers when they went out on strike in August of 2011 and after.
