Errol Lezama, ENY Bus Operator, Dies of Covid
TWU Local 100 and East New York Depot are mourning the passing of Bus Operator Errol Lezama of the Coronavirus on Feb. 6, 2021. He was 63 years old and had been on the job since April 2006. His last day of work was Jan. 27, 2021.
Brother Lezama was born Sept. 15, 1957 in Fyzabad Village, Saint Patrick, Trinidad and Tobago. Saint Patrick is located on the big island of Trinidad. East New York Depot Vice Chair Javier Oquendo said of Brother Lezama: “I am in shock by this. I was just speaking with him last week. Always a stand-up brother, and always willing to help you out. This virus is nothing to play with. I salute my brother.”
Vice president JP Patafio said: “This is a very upsetting loss for the members at East New York and for all of TA Surface. It’s a stark reminder that the fight against the virus is not over. My deepest condolences to his family and the brothers and sisters at East New York.”
Fellow ENY Operator, Elvin D. Brooks, said on social media: “We were classmates. My God. RIP and condolences to the family. True gentleman and great coworker. So sad.” Another co-worker, Rafael Semidey, said: “Heartbreaking news! Great guy. My condolences to the friends and family. R.I.P.” Another simply said. “He was an awesome individual and will be deeply missed at ENY.”
Brother Lezama held his co-workers and Depot in the same regard that they held him. In a social media posting a few years ago, he said: "East New York makes me look forward going early to work every day. I love East New York.”
