Governor Kathy Hochul Visits Quill Depot
TWU Local 100 officers and members gave Gov. Kathy Hochul an enthusiastic reception Thursday afternoon when she made a campaign stop at the Quill Depot.
Applause and chants of "Hochul, Hochul!" rang out when the governor entered the swing room, where she made remarks and greeted members individually.
"I'm grateful to have you marching behind me," Hochul said. We're going to march to the polls... and we'll be part of an enormous victory. We'll make history together."
Hochul, a Democrat, will be the first woman elected Governor of New York State if she beats Republican Lee Zeldin on Nov. 8th. She is currently filling the unfinished term of Andrew Cuomo, who resigned.
Addressing the Bus Operators and Maintainers gathered at Quill, Hochul praised transit workers for carrying the city through the pandemic. She then vowed to keep working with Mayor Adams to reduce crime.
"What we're going to continue to do is fight like hell for every one of you because I know how hard you are fighting for yourselves and your families," she said. "We're going to take back our streets and make them safe so you don't have to worry about anything but servicing the public. You deserve to be safe."
"SHE CARES"
President Utano recalled how Gov. Hochul came to support the family of a Track Worker who was killed on the job four years ago. Hochul was Lt. Governor when St. Clair Richards-Stephens fell 20 feet onto a lower-level track in a Harlem subway tunnel. "She showed up to the funeral," Utano said. "She came. She comforted the family, and that was an important thing. This is why I know she cares."
Utano also commended Hochul for working with the mayor, not against him. Cuomo and former Mayor Bill de Blasio were constantly at odds.
