The TWU Local 100 Executive Board, after nearly 24 hours of deliberation over a two-day period, has found Israel Rivera, Jr. guilty of "misappropriating the monies" of TWU Local 100 and has removed him from the office of Secretary-Treasurer of the Union.
Rivera was also found guilty of three other charges of misconduct, including the unauthorized purchase of an automobile for his personal use, in which he paid over $65,000.00 in union funds for a vehicle which cost $38,000.00. Rivera was further found guilty of refusing to provide required financial reports to the Local 100 Executive Board and refusing to process TWU Local 100's payroll.
Specifically, on the charge of misappropriating Local 100's monies, the Executive Board found Rivera guilty of using his position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Union to funnel commissions from equipment purchases from Xerox Corporation to a woman he had a personal relationship with and resided at the same address.
The final vote to remove Rivera from the office of Secretary-Treasurer was a decisive 37 to 1 in favor of removal. Local 100 President John Samuelsen recused himself from voting in the proceeding.
After the ruling, Samuelsen said: "The leadership and Executive Board has acted promptly and transparently to address this serious act of misconduct. In doing so, the leadership has protected the assets and integrity of TWU Local 100."
