700 TWU Local 100 union members and their families turned out to celebrate the great heritage of the Indian subcontinent over the weekend at the IBEW Hall in Flushing, Queens. It was a night of great dining, magic, dancing and entertainment, and featured addresses from some of New York's most prominent public officials, including Grace Meng, favored to win a seat in Congress on November 6, NYC Comptroller John Liu, NYC Public Advocate Bill De Blasio, and others. George Abraham, President of the Indian National Overseas Congress, spoke of the high ideals of India's founding Prime Minister, Mahatma Gandhi, and of the spiritual tradition he carried forward and that continues today. Given a special plaque by President Samuelsen was Jolly Eapen, Executive Board Member from Car Equipment, who founded and convened the Indian Day celebration.
