MABSTOA Mourns Bus Operator Brenda Diaz, 48
TWU and Bus Operators at Gun Hill Depot are mourning the passing of Operator Brenda Diaz, 48, who passed away at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx after a 4-year battle with stomach cancer.
The sister of Juan Jose Ortiz, a 16-year Bus Operator out of Gun Hill Depot, Brenda had nine years of service with New York City Transit. Said Local 100 President Richard Davis: "Brenda was my friend and a great person. I am greatly saddened to see her pass at such a young age."
TWU Local 100 Members and reps frequently visited Brenda to offer support during her struggle. Union Rep and Bus Operator Monique Rondon, who knew her well, said: "She was simply amazing, relentless, and wanted to continue working even while fighting cancer."
A Wake for Brenda will be held this coming Sunday, August 4, at the Lucchese Funeral Home at 426 Morris Park Avenue, in the Bronx, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Local 100 members are urged to attend to pay their respects.
