RTO Mourns Train Operator Leon S. Flowers, 38, of COVID19; Funeral set for Tuesday
Rapid Transit Operations is mourning the passing of Train Operator Leon S. Flowers, 38.
Here are the arrangements: There will be a viewing and a service on Tuesday, May 11, at the Guarino Funeral Home at 9222 Flatlands Ave. in Brooklyn, NY 11236. The viewing is from 9am to 11am and the service is from 11am to 12pm.
Brother Flowers worked for New York City Transit since March 2014, starting as a Conductor. He was promoted to Train Operator in 2017. He died on April 30th from COVID-19.
Born in the Central American country of Belize, he and his family moved to the US when he was child, settling in New York. He lived in Brooklyn at the time of his passing. Flowers was a graduate of CUNY LaGuardia College, where he studied nursing. He grew up in the Anglican faith. Brother Flowers enjoyed the gym, playing basketball, and loved to travel. He also loved his job, as his mother Ann recalls, “his job was his life.” It was his goal to keep moving up in titles, and “to go as far as he could” in Transit.
He is survived by his mother, a sister, and four brothers. He was the youngest. Brother Flowers was unmarried and had no children. Funeral services are still pending, and will be announced when they are finalized.
