Theodore Mapes, Retired UAP Director, Is Mourned

Local 100 is mourning the passing of Theodore “Teddy” Mapes, retired MABSTOA Bus Operator and Director of the Local 100 Union Assistance Program. He was 82 and died of natural causes on July 8, 2025.  He was born in Astoria, NY on January 2, 1943.

Teddy began changing his life in 1982 by joining Alcoholics Anonymous.  He became deeply involved in AA, organizing groups, volunteering, and by sponsoring many fellow alcoholics.  Along the way he achieved his license as a certified substance abuse counselor.

He started with the Local 100 Union Assistance Program as a peer counselor and was later named Director. Teddy was co-founder of the Labor Assistance Professionals, a national organization of peer counselors from union’s across the nation.
