Transit Workers' Message to the MTA: "Lay Off Walder!"

TUESDAY, July 13 -- With chants of "Fire the MTA," and "Lay Off Walder" reverberating throughout the historic Great Hall of Cooper Union College, TWU Local 100 President John Samuelsen accused MTA Chairman Jay Walder and other members of the Board of being "totally out of touch" with the riding public and New York's working families.

He further accused the MTA bosses of putting millions of riders "in harms way" by following through on plans to close nearly 90 booths and lay off 220 additional Station Agents. And he forcefully reminded the Board that "this is not your system.… This is our system, the people's system." But, he affirmed at the July 13th MTA Board hearings,"it's not too late to do the right thing" for the people of New York, urging the Board to reverse itself and keep the booths open.
