Twenty-Two Years Later — You Are Invited to Our 9/11 Event
You remember that when we got the call after the planes hit the towers, thousands of us were sent to Ground Zero specifically to remove thousands of tons of debris which came from the falling towers and also the crushed vehicles impeding access to the site. We did this so that FDNY and NYPD personnel could access the site to effect rescues. We also were tasked with setting up the lighting towers so that rescue and recovery operations could continue at night, and enabling communications systems for first responders. In addition, our Cleaners had a herculean job to do to restore and decontaminate transit properties in the exposure zone.
Now we have reached a milestone in official recognition -- we have negotiated an agreement with the National 9/11 Memorial Museum to tell the story of Transit's work at 9/11 in their exhibits. At the same time we have agreed that the Museum will host our annual 9/11 commemoration — at which our 9/11 Medals are presented to transit workers who have verified 9/11 illnesses. We are inviting you to this very important event.
The dinner and medal ceremony will be held this year at the National 9/11 Memorial Museum on Monday, August 21, from 5PM to 7PM. Also speaking at the event will be Beth Hillman, CEO of the Museum, and our President, Richard Davis. We are also inviting a prominent public official to give remarks.
SEATING IS VERY LIMITED AND ACCESS TO THIS EVENT IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS. SO PLEASE REGISTER RIGHT AWAY . A LIGHT DINNER WILL BE SERVED — FORMAL ATTIRE IS REQUESTED (JACKET REQUIRED FOR MEN).
ALL RESERVATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION BY TWU LOCAL 100. A CONFIRMATION EMAIL OR TEXT FROM THE UNION THAT YOU HAVE A SEAT MUST BE PRESENTED AT THE MUSEUM ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT. NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A CONFIRMATION EMAIL. EACH RESPONDER IS WELCOME TO BRING ONE GUEST.
Fraternally,
Richard Davis, President, TWU Local 100
