Two Wins in Two Days for TWU Local 100

Similarly, the mechanics at First Student in Haverstraw were drawn to Local 100 after seeing the contracts that the drivers at the company had gotten after joining our union and bargaining with management.

“They wanted to have a voice at work as well,” said McCann.

Joining McCann in the organizing drives was TWU Local 100 Lead Organizer Karla Kozak, as well as drivers Melissa Taveras at Royal Coach and Lori McWeeney at First Student Haverstraw, who also serves as Haverstraw Depot Chair.

MTA Bus/Private Bus Lines/School Bus VP Danny D’Amato rejoiced two days running with the newest Local 100 members to join.

“Congratulations to the drivers and monitors at Royal Coach/Putnam Valley, and congratulations to the Haverstraw mechanics on their yes vote for TWU Local 100!” said D’Amato. "About two years ago, we organized the drivers and monitors at Haverstraw Transit and went on to successfully negotiate and execute a great Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The Haverstraw mechanics have seen firsthand the difference union representation can make and understand the importance of having a union fighting for their rights, fair treatment, better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

“Welcome to the TWU family—these victories are important steps forward, and we look forward to delivering results for our new members,” D'Amato added.

Local 100 President John V. Chiarello celebrated the news announcing our new members.

“We are delighted to have more groups of workers vote to join TWU Local 100, and glad they came to us to seek representation. School buses drivers and mechanics take care of our most precious cargo—our children, and the mechanics make sure the buses are safe to operate. They all deserve to be recognized, rewarded and protected accordingly. As president I am very proud of our organizing team and we welcome our new members with open arms.”
