TWU Local 100 Mourns the Passing of Station Agent Marshalee Reid, Calls on Members to Stand with Her Family in Court
“Known for speaking her mind freely and honestly, she was a woman of character who earned the love and respect of her communities in both Bull Bay, Jamaica and New York. Family was at the heart of her life, and she deeply cherished bonds she shared with those closest to her,” the obituary reads.
Ms. Reid, who had been on the job since 2022, passed on October 25. Her time in transit was marred by a vicious assault she was subjected to on June 28, 2025 while working at the New Lots Station in Brooklyn, a case which is still winding its way through court.
“I was attacked by two girls on the job and they jumped me,” Reid told press days after the assault, noting that one of the women had keys in her hand when she was punching the Station Agent in the face and that she had been knocked unconscious during the attack.
Ms. Reid had recently returned to work after having brain surgery.
Within weeks after that interview police arrested Ayizhae Thomas and Lashea Aldridge, charging them with three counts of felony assault, including Assault 2 to reflect that Ms. Reid had been on duty.
They were also charged with several misdemeanors, including acting in a manner injurious to a child, because Thomas had her small child with her when the women attacked Ms. Reid.
Ms. Reid had undergone another brain surgery after the brutal assault.
Thomas and Aldridge are due back in court tomorrow morning, where their trial is scheduled to begin.
It remains to be seen what effect Ms. Reid’s untimely passing will have on the case, but we are asking all members who are able to show up on short notice to be at court tomorrow to support Ms. Reid’s family and show the judge that we have our Sister’s back in death as well as in life.
“As we mourn the death of our beloved member Ms. Reid let us all stand as one with her family,” said Stations Vice President Robert Kelley. “We have yet to establish whether her passing was induced by the malicious assault she suffered while working at the New Lots station, but I can assure you all there will be a full investigation. I already reached out to the D.A. Eric Gonzalez, who let me know his office will be contacting the medical examiner for a complete review of the facts. Please pray for Ms. Reid's family and loved ones and remember, when we fight together, we win.”
Tomorrow’s court proceeding will take place at:
Brooklyn Supreme Criminal Court
320 Jay Street, Part 21
Brooklyn 9 AM
Ms. Reid’s viewing and funeral have also been scheduled for later this month, on Friday, November 20.
The viewing will take place from 10-11:30 AM, followed by the funeral service from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM. Both will be held at:
Harmony Funeral Home
2200 Clarendon Road
Brooklyn, NY 11226
During this difficult time, we remember Marshalee Reid as a coworker, friend and fellow union member, and we pledge to stand by her family and keep seeking justice.
“She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her authenticity, her outspoken nature, and the unconditional love she gave. Her presence brought joy, laughter, and strength to those around her, and her lasting impact will continue to be felt by her family, friends, and community,” the obituary concludes.
“Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the love she shared. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will remain with us always.”
