TWU Local 100 Raises Over $32,500 at Breast Cancer Walk in the Bronx
Before the walk kicked off, Local 100 Team Captain and event emcee Tonya Thompson of MaBSTOA's West Farms Depot welcomed President John V. Chiarello to the stage, along with Recording Secretary Shirley Martin and Working Women's Committee board members Celeste Kirkland, Nivea Luke, and LaClesha Spears.
Chiarello fired up the crowd with an uplifting speech, reminding everyone of the importance of coming together for such a meaningful cause. “We will support this event today and forever,” he told the crowd. He also gave a special shoutout to former Recording Secretary LaTonya Crisp, now Outreach Coordinator for the union’s Childcare Fund. Crisp, a breast cancer survivor herself, was in the crowd and ready to take on the walk alongside her union brothers and sisters.
For many of our members, the fight against breast cancer hits close to home. Sunday's walk was a chance to stand with survivors, remember loved ones we've lost, and show support for those still fighting.
The encouragement didn't stop at the starting line. Members were greeted with just as much love and excitement as they crossed the finish line. And with more than $32,500 raised, Team TWU Local 100 gave everyone another reason to be proud.
The walk may be over, but the fight continues. Those who would like to contribute can visit the American Cancer Society's donation page to support the cause.
