TWU Mourns Retired Gun Hill Chair Roosevelt “Rosey” Allen

TWU Local 100 is mourning the passing of union stalwart Roosevelt “Rosey” Allen, the long-time chair of Gun Hill Depot in the Bronx.  He was 83 years old.

Rosey joined Transit as a MaBSTOA Bus Operator in 1967 and retired in 2000.  He was the elected Chair of Gun Hill Depot, where he ran one of the tightest shops in the union. He was also a past President and founding member of the Society of African American Transit Employees.

Local 100 President Tony Utano said, “Rosey was a true gentleman, and union man to the core.  He was loved by the membership and deeply respected by management.  If Rosie couldn’t get something done, then nobody could.  He was a force to be reckoned with.”

He regularly declined offers to run for higher office in the union, preferring to remain with his brothers and sisters at Gun Hill Depot. Brother Allen was a member of the TWU Local 100 Retirees Association for the past 20 years and had served on its Executive Board until 2013.

Arrangements are pending, but we will publish them as soon as they become available.
