Union Mourns Elizabeth Mahfouz, 53

The TWU Local 100 family in the Stations Department is mourning the loss of Collecting Agent Elizabeth Mahfouz, who took her own life on Saturday, July 6th at the Flatbush Avenue/Brooklyn College Station on the 2 and 5 lines. Stations Department Vice President Maurice Jenkins said that he did not know what drove Sister Mahfouz to use her service weapon to end her life while on duty at the station. No members of the public witnessed the event which took place in a restroom. Brother Jenkins said that union members should know that, in the event of personal stress or difficulties, there are trained counselors with the TWU Union Assistance Program (UAP) who are available at 212-736-3579 to give help and support. This program is entirely confidential, voluntary, and non-disciplinary. It is run by the union and has no connection with management. Sister Mahfouz leaves her husband, two adult daughters and a grand-daughter. We will advise the membership of any arrangements the family has made for a funeral or memorial service.
