Update on Train Operator Stabbing
OCTOBER 8 -- Today at Utica Avenue at approximately 11AM there was an attempted murder of one of our Train Operators that took place while he was in the process of cleaning out a train for a relay. RTO VP Canella Gomez responded to the scene with President Richard Davis, CED VP Shirley Martin, and other officers.
An 27 year-old EDP with a knife stabbed our 60 year old Train Operator multiple times, and, when he ran and fell, continued to stab him. Fortunately, there were multiple NYPD officers on the platform who were able to save the Train Operator’s life by arresting the EDP and stabilizing the situation until EMS arrived.
The Train Operator was rushed by ambulance to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent surgery at approximately 12 PM.
President Davis told the media: “Brother Myran Pollack, a 33 year NYCT veteran, was stabbed six to nine times just performing his day to day job. The person who stabbed him should not have been back on the street. He had a lengthy rap sheet and the judges of New York let him out.
“This has to stop. The public is in danger if we are in danger. Fortunately, the police caught the assailant — but our concern is this man will be back on the street after attempting to murder one of our members.”
At around 5:30pm we were advised that surgery was successful. Train Operator Pollack was moved into the ICU in stable condition and is now in an induced coma.
Conductor/Tower Chair Jesse Argueta, Train Operator Chair Jonluke Rodriguez, Vice Chair Garland Perry and Vice Chair Brian Davis also responded to Utica Avenue and at this time are still at at the station. Vice Chair Ken Rivera and Adell Harris went to Woodlawn to ensure that members were supported following the incident.
