Local 100 President Samuelsen Named TWU International Administrative Vice President

The TWU International Union's Executive Council elevated Local 100 President John Samuelsen to its top leadership council, the International Administrative Committee (IAC) at its meeting on June 4, 2013.

The IAC includes the International Union's top five officers, currently International President James C. Little, Executive Vice President Harry Lombardo, Secretary Treasurer Joseph Gordon, International Administrative Vice President Gary Maslanka, and now new International Administrative Vice President John Samuelsen.

This is the first time in nearly a decade that a Local 100 officer has been elected to the IAC.  Since its founding in 1934, officers from Local 100, the national TWU's largest affiliate, have traditionally served in the union's top leadership.

Samuelsen, who will retain his full duties as Local 100 President, said: "I am looking forward to working with the Administrative Committee and my fellow officers from Local 100 and the other Locals on the International Executive Council and Board to meet the many challenges facing all TWU Locals from all Divisions, including Air Transport, Railroad and Transit, Utility and Universities."

Samuelsen added that he is happy that Local 100's voice will once again be prominent on the Administrative Committee.  "This is a good thing for Local 100 and our national union."

The IAC is responsible for all areas of governance of the International Union and its Local affiliates.

In addition to Samuelsen, who had already been serving as an International Vice President, other Local 100 officers and staff on the International Executive Council and Board include: Brian Clarke, Tony Utano, Nelson Rivera, Curtis Tate, James Whalen, Tom Lenane, Richie Davis and Derrick Echevarria.
