All MTA Unions Join in Calling for Misdemeanor Penalties Against Spitters

FEBRUARY 12 -- TWU Local 100 joined with all major MTA Unions in a press conference at City Hall to call on the State Legislature to pass a bill backed by Gov. Cuomo that would allow for misdemeanor assault charges to be brought against persons spitting on transit workers.

Currently, the offense only carries a violation, akin to a parking ticket. TWU Local 100 President Tony Utano told numerous media outlets that the need to better protect transit workers is urgent, and announced that all five New York City District Attorneys have joined the union's call.
