Coronavirus Update

MARCH 5, 2020 -- TWU Local 100 officers demanded in a meeting with MTA brass that worker facilities and work locations be cleaned more frequently to thwart the spread of the corona virus. Union leadership also told MTA officials that there is a shortage of hand sanitizer in the field - and they have to ensure adequate supplies are made available to workers.

Local 100 President Tony Utano also reiterated to management that workers who want to wear a medical mask for their safety or peace of mind have that right.

MTA brass indicated they would ramp up the sanitizing of facilities, including crew rooms, swing rooms and bathrooms, and would look into complaints about areas lacking hand sanitizer. The Local 100 contingent also included Recording Secretary LaTonya Crisp, Secretary-Treasurer Earl Philips, the departmental vice presidents Pete Rosconi, Shirley Martin, Eric Loegel, J.P. Patafio, Richie Davis, John Chiarello and Lynwood Whichard. MTA representatives included Chief Safety Officer Pat Warren and Labor Relations Vice President Kim Ward. Another meeting is scheduled for Monday.
